Backstory
I recently came across a unique zipper installation method by a lady on Youtube (PegaPega Fofurices) where there was no need for zipper tabs to create neat zipper ends. The results were beautiful curved ends and I was intrigued. Unfortunately, the instructions were not in English and it took a couple of trial and error to truly perfect the method. I hope that by sharing this method in English, more people would be able to benefit from this unique way of zipper installation.

I consider myself fairly experienced in installing zippers but had never seen this method until the Sakura Pouch and now I can’t wait to adapt the technique to bigger bags! This zipper installation method allows for a wide opening without use of zipper tabs while still having a neat finish. The size of the Sakura Pouch is also so cute and comes together fast for last minute gifts. This was my intro to SSOL patterns and I am already eyeing a bunch more that I want to try!

My first attempt at small pouches. Took me a while to figure out things but am very happy with the result. They were for my kids’ dentist and her assistant. I went on to make a few more as CNY angpows for my elders. They absolutely love them. Learnt a lot from this sew.👍

This is a great pattern that is super easy to follow. There are lots of ways you can personalize it. I have made it following the pattern, enlarging it 120% (adding a wristlet strap) and also adding a divider pocket inside. AWESOME designer and I look forward to making more and more. They are addictive and a great scrap buster project!
